The Cardigan Welsh Corgi, also known as the Cardie or CWC, is one of the oldest herding breeds in the British Isles and one of the UK’s endangered native breeds. Recognisable by its long body, short legs, and expressive face, this charming little dog was originally bred in Wales to herd cattle, using agility and intelligence rather than size.
In the 1930s, the Cardigan Welsh Corgi was officially recognised by the Kennel Club as a separate breed from its close cousin, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Compared to the Pembroke, the Cardigan is slightly larger, with a long, bushy tail and rounded ears.
Despite its rarity, the Cardigan Welsh Corgi has a loyal following worldwide, loved for its affectionate, intelligent, and adaptable nature. They make excellent family companions, thriving in homes where they can be included in daily activities and enjoy both mental and physical stimulation.
