LIFE SPAN

Information

Whoodles are outgoing, bright, and affectionate. They tend to bond closely with their humans and do best in homes where they get plenty of attention and stimulation. Without structure or activity, they may become overly excitable or mischievous.

They are excellent candidates for obedience, agility, and even therapy work, thanks to their eagerness to learn and sociable temperament. Early training is key to managing their energy and any stubborn streaks inherited from the terrier side.

Coat type can vary, but most Whoodles require regular grooming and professional trimming to prevent matting.

Overview

The Whoodle is a designer dog breed created by crossing a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier with a Poodle (typically Miniature or Standard). This mix results in a medium-sized, affectionate, and lively companion that’s both people-oriented and allergy-friendly.

Whoodles inherit the best of both worlds: the terrier’s spirited personality and the Poodle’s intelligence and trainability. They often have a soft, wavy to curly coat that sheds minimally and makes them a popular choice for allergy-sensitive households.

Their friendly nature, playfulness, and adaptability make them well-suited to active individuals or families who want a dog that thrives on interaction, training, and adventure.

What to expect

Owning a dog is not just a privilege; it’s a responsibility. They depend on us for, at minimum, food and shelter, and deserve much more.

Health
Whoodles are generally healthy but may inherit issues from both parent breeds, such as hip dysplasia, skin allergies, or ear infections. Regular checkups and grooming help prevent problems.
Grooming
Brush several times per week. Most Whoodles require professional grooming every 6–8 weeks. Their coat mats easily if neglected. Clean ears regularly to avoid infections.
Exercise
Needs daily walks, interactive play, and mental enrichment. Loves games, training, and being included in family activities. Without exercise, may become restless or vocal.
Training
Highly trainable and loves pleasing its owner. Early training and socialization are key to preventing stubborn behavior. Positive reinforcement works best.
Nutrition
Feed a high-quality, well-balanced diet for medium-sized active dogs. Monitor weight and avoid overfeeding, especially in less active Whoodles.
