Information

Springer Spaniels are quick learners and love having a job to do. They respond well to obedience training, agility, and retrieving games. However, their high intelligence means they need daily mental and physical engagement—boredom can lead to restlessness or destructive habits. Early socialization is recommended, though they’re usually naturally friendly and outgoing.

Their medium-length coat requires regular grooming, especially around the ears and legs, to prevent tangling and matting. They shed moderately year-round. Common health concerns include ear infections, hip dysplasia, and eye issues such as progressive retinal atrophy. Active and loyal, Springers do best in homes that match their energy and dedication.

Overview

The English Springer Spaniel is a highly versatile sporting dog, originally bred in England for flushing and retrieving game birds. It’s one of the most affectionate and hardworking members of the Spaniel family, balancing field performance with loving companionship. With expressive eyes, feathery ears, and a constantly wagging tail, the Springer is as eager to work as it is to bond with its family.

Springers thrive on human attention and excel in households where they’re given structure, activity, and affection. They are great with children and usually get along well with other pets. Their naturally enthusiastic personality makes them happy companions for active owners, especially those who enjoy hiking, running, or outdoor sports.
