Puggle

WEIGHT
15-30 pounds
LIFE SPAN
10-15 years
Information

The Puggle is a cross between a Pug and a Beagle, blending two beloved breeds into one adorable, spirited companion. This hybrid dog became popular in the early 2000s thanks to its sweet personality, cute looks, and family-friendly temperament.

Puggles tend to inherit the sociable charm of the Pug and the liveliness and scent-driven curiosity of the Beagle. They are outgoing, affectionate, and generally get along great with children and other dogs, making them ideal for active households.

While they’re not high-maintenance in grooming, Puggles do need regular exercise and consistent training, especially because of their Beagle lineage, which can lead to stubbornness and a strong nose for distraction.

Overview

Puggles are outgoing and goofy companions that love being around people. They enjoy playtime, short walks, and cuddles in equal measure. While they are generally adaptable, they do best with families who can offer daily exercise, attention, and consistent routines.

Due to their brachycephalic (flat-faced) Pug side, some Puggles may snore or struggle with heat. From the Beagle side, they can also be a bit vocal or prone to wandering if not trained early.

They are great for first-time owners, kids, and anyone wanting a small-to-medium dog with personality, heart, and just enough sass.

What to expect

Owning a dog is not just a privilege; it’s a responsibility. They depend on us for, at minimum, food and shelter, and deserve much more.

Health
Common issues may include breathing difficulties, hip dysplasia, ear infections, eye problems, and obesity. Routine vet care and weight management are key.
Grooming
Low to moderate. Puggles have short coats that shed regularly. Weekly brushing controls hair and helps with skin health. Clean ears regularly, especially if floppy like a Beagle’s.
Exercise
Moderate. Needs daily walks and mental stimulation. Can become bored or destructive if under-exercised. Enjoys scent games and social play.
Training
Moderately easy. Puggles are smart but may be stubborn. Early socialization and positive reinforcement help create a well-mannered pet. Be patient and consistent.
Nutrition
Feed a balanced small- to medium-breed formula. Monitor weight closely — both parent breeds are prone to overeating. Dental chews and kibble help oral hygiene.
