The Poodle is one of the most intelligent and trainable dog breeds in the world. Originating in Germany (though refined in France), Poodles were originally bred as water retrievers, which explains their athleticism, love of water, and working instinct.
There are three size varieties — Standard, Miniature, and Toy — all sharing the same breed standard and personality traits. Poodles are elegant, eager, and highly intuitive, making them excellent in obedience, agility, service work, and family life.
Poodles are also known for their curly, low-shedding coat, which is considered hypoallergenic, though it does require consistent grooming. Their versatility means they do well in both urban apartments and active rural homes — as long as their minds and bodies are engaged.
