The Icelandic Sheepdog is highly trainable and eager to please, especially when rewarded with praise, play, or treats. Its herding background gives it quick reflexes and strong instincts, which should be channeled through positive training and structured activities.
This breed loves attention and may become anxious if left alone for long periods. Daily engagement, both physical and mental, helps prevent boredom and unwanted behaviors like excessive barking or herding children.
Its thick double coat protects against harsh weather and comes in short or long varieties. While not difficult to care for, it sheds seasonally and requires regular grooming.
