WEIGHT
8-14 pounds
LIFE SPAN
10-12 years
Information

English Toy Spaniels are quiet, sweet-natured dogs that bond closely with their families. They can be reserved with strangers but are never aggressive. Because of their small size and sensitivity, they do best in peaceful homes without rough play or intense noise.

Their long, flowing coat requires regular brushing, especially on the ears and chest. The breed is prone to some health concerns common to brachycephalic (short-nosed) dogs, including respiratory and eye issues, so routine vet care is important.

Overview

The English Toy Spaniel—also known as the King Charles Spaniel in the UK—is a small, graceful lapdog originally bred for companionship in royal courts. This toy breed is closely associated with British nobility and is known for its domed head, short nose, large dark eyes, and richly feathered coat.

Though elegant in appearance, the English Toy Spaniel is a devoted, easygoing companion who thrives in calm, indoor environments. They love close contact with their humans, preferring cuddles and gentle play to vigorous activity.
