Cockapoo

HEIGHT
10-15 inches
WEIGHT
12-30 pounds
LIFE SPAN
12-15 years
Information

The Cockapoo is one of the oldest and most popular designer dog breeds, developed by crossing the Cocker Spaniel with the Poodle (usually Miniature or Toy). This mix brings together the best traits of both parent breeds — friendliness, intelligence, and a soft, often curly coat that’s low-shedding and allergy-friendly.

Cockapoos are known for their affectionate, easygoing nature. They love being around people and are typically great with children, other pets, and even strangers. Their adaptable size and low-shedding coat make them ideal for apartment living or family homes alike.

These dogs are highly trainable, eager to please, and respond well to positive reinforcement. Their only real weakness? They don’t like being left alone — they thrive when they’re part of the family action.

They crave attention and companionship, so they do best in households where someone is home most of the time. Their friendly temperament, soft coat, and eager-to-please attitude make them not only easy to love, but also easy to live with — provided you meet their grooming and exercise needs.

Whether curled up on your lap or running after a ball, the Cockapoo brings joy and warmth wherever it goes.

What to expect

Owning a dog is not just a privilege; it’s a responsibility. They depend on us for, at minimum, food and shelter, and deserve much more.

Health
Generally healthy, but may inherit issues from either parent breed — including hip dysplasia, ear infections, eye conditions, luxating patella, and allergies. Regular vet care and grooming are key.
Grooming
Brush 3–4 times per week to prevent matting. Professional grooming every 6–8 weeks recommended. Keep ears clean and dry to prevent infections. Brush teeth regularly.
Exercise
Needs daily walks and active playtime. Cockapoos love fetch, agility, and social play. Without enough stimulation, they can become vocal or anxious.
Training
Highly intelligent and responsive. Learns commands quickly and thrives on praise and play. Start early to encourage confidence and good manners.
Nutrition
Feed a balanced, high-quality small- to medium-breed formula. Monitor weight and dental health. Split meals to help with digestion and energy.
