Information

The Cavachon is a hybrid breed resulting from the cross between the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Bichon Frise. Known for their sweet disposition, soft wavy coat, and minimal shedding, Cavachons are a favorite among families, especially those in apartments or with mild allergies.

These small dogs typically inherit the best qualities of both parent breeds — the playfulness and gentle nature of the Cavalier, plus the intelligence and hypoallergenic coat of the Bichon. Their friendly, non-aggressive demeanor makes them ideal companions for children, seniors, and first-time dog owners.

They thrive on human interaction, prefer not to be left alone for long, and do best in homes where they’re treated as part of the family.

Overview

The Cavachon is a loving lap dog with a fun, social personality. Its manageable size and friendly attitude make it perfect for families in both houses and apartments. Whether playing with children or cuddling on the couch, Cavachons are adaptable, easygoing, and emotionally in tune with their owners.

Their coat is soft and often described as hypoallergenic, though regular grooming is required. These dogs crave companionship and may develop separation anxiety if left alone too long — they’re happiest in homes where they’re rarely far from their people.

What to expect

Owning a dog is not just a privilege; it’s a responsibility. They depend on us for, at minimum, food and shelter, and deserve much more.

Health
Generally healthy, though may inherit issues from parent breeds like heart disease (mitral valve), luxating patella, and dental issues. Regular vet checkups and dental care are key.
Grooming
Moderate grooming needs. Brush 3–4 times per week to prevent tangles. Trim coat every 6–8 weeks. Clean ears and brush teeth regularly to avoid infection and decay.
Exercise
Moderate energy. Daily short walks and indoor play are enough to keep them happy. Not overly active but enjoys bursts of fun and attention.
Training
Highly trainable, especially with gentle, positive methods. Cavachons are eager to please and sensitive — harsh corrections are unnecessary and counterproductive.
Nutrition
Feed a premium small-breed diet. Monitor portions to prevent weight gain. Dental treats and small kibble sizes help maintain oral health.
