LIFE SPAN

Information

The Bulldog is a symbol of determination and charm. Originally bred in England for bull-baiting, the modern Bulldog is now a loving, low-key companion dog with a soft heart and a strong bond with its family.

Short, broad, and muscular, Bulldogs have a distinctive look: loose skin, short snouts, undershot jaws, and a powerful stance. But behind their serious expression lies a laid-back, affectionate, and often comical personality. They love lounging, cuddling, and staying close to their humans.

Bulldogs are excellent with children and adapt well to apartment life due to their low exercise needs. However, they do require attentive care — especially regarding heat sensitivity, breathing issues, and joint health.

Overview

Bulldogs are the definition of "gentle tough guys." Despite their strong build and sometimes grumpy face, they’re one of the most affectionate and loyal breeds around. They form deep attachments to their people and thrive on companionship.

This breed is perfect for slower-paced households — they love short walks and long naps. While not the most obedient by nature, Bulldogs are trainable with consistent, patient, and positive reinforcement.

They’re also known to snore, slobber, and sometimes pass gas, but Bulldog lovers wouldn’t trade them for the world.

What to expect

Owning a dog is not just a privilege; it’s a responsibility. They depend on us for, at minimum, food and shelter, and deserve much more.

Health
Bulldogs are prone to brachycephalic syndrome (breathing issues), hip and elbow dysplasia, skin infections (especially in folds), and overheating. Veterinary care and temperature control are essential.
Grooming
Low-shedding but high-maintenance in specific areas. Clean facial wrinkles daily to prevent infections. Brush weekly and bathe monthly or as needed. Keep nails short.
Exercise
Minimal. Short daily walks and some light indoor play are enough. Avoid activity in hot or humid conditions due to breathing and heat sensitivity.
Training
Can be stubborn, but are food-motivated and respond to positive reinforcement. Keep sessions short and fun. Early socialization helps prevent behavioral issues.
Nutrition
Feed a high-quality diet formulated for medium, low-activity breeds. Monitor for weight gain — Bulldogs are prone to obesity. Choose food that supports joints and skin.
