Information

Bernedoodles are affectionate, goofy, and intelligent. They love being close to their people and thrive in homes where they’re part of the daily routine. Their trainability and social nature make them great for therapy work, obedience, or active families.

Early training is important to curb stubbornness (a trait from the Bernese side), and socialization helps prevent shyness or clinginess. They enjoy moderate to high levels of activity, depending on size and individual temperament.

Their coats are generally low- to non-shedding but require regular grooming to prevent mats and tangles.

Overview

The Bernedoodle is a hybrid breed resulting from crossing a Bernese Mountain Dog with a Poodle (Toy, Miniature, or Standard). This mix produces a versatile, affectionate companion that inherits the intelligence and low-shedding coat of the Poodle and the easygoing, loyal nature of the Bernese.

Bernedoodles come in various sizes depending on the Poodle parent, with coats that range from wavy to curly. They’re known for being excellent family dogs—gentle with children, sociable with other pets, and eager to please.

Their balanced energy level, adaptability, and allergy-friendliness have made them one of the most popular doodle mixes in recent years. While not a recognized purebred, they are celebrated for their charming personality and teddy bear looks.

What to expect

Owning a dog is not just a privilege; it’s a responsibility. They depend on us for, at minimum, food and shelter, and deserve much more.

Health
Generally healthy, but as a hybrid, may inherit conditions from either parent breed. Common concerns include joint issues, allergies, and eye disorders. Reputable breeders perform health testing.
Grooming
Curly or wavy coats require brushing several times per week. Professional grooming every 6–8 weeks recommended. Coat maintenance is essential for comfort and appearance.
Exercise
Needs daily walks, playtime, and mental stimulation. Energy level varies by size—standard Bernedoodles are more active, while mini and toy types adapt well to moderate routines.
Training
Highly trainable and eager to please. Early obedience and socialization are key. Sensitive to tone—responds best to gentle, positive reinforcement.
Nutrition
Feed a high-quality, balanced diet suitable for the dog’s size and activity level. Monitor weight, especially in standard types, to avoid joint strain.
