Information

American Eskimo Dogs are quick learners and do best with positive reinforcement training. They love to show off and need mental stimulation to stay well-behaved. Socialization from an early age helps them feel confident around strangers and other pets.

Their dense white double coat requires regular grooming to stay clean and free of mats. Eskies shed seasonally and benefit from brushing several times a week. Common health concerns include hip dysplasia, progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), and patellar luxation. Active, engaged families are best suited for this energetic and people-loving breed.

Overview

The American Eskimo Dog, often called the "Eskie," is a striking white companion breed that combines beauty, brains, and energy. Despite the name, the breed originated in Germany and descends from the Spitz family, sharing lineage with breeds like the German Spitz and Samoyed. Eskies come in three sizes: toy, miniature, and standard, making them versatile for many living spaces.

These dogs are highly intelligent, eager to please, and very devoted to their owners. Known for their alertness and trainability, they excel in obedience and agility. Eskies thrive in homes where they are included in daily activities and receive plenty of interaction. Left alone too long, they can become vocal or anxious.
